Ouch! Tea

£7.00

I am frequently asked about pain management, for which there are many answers, depending on the type of pain and the person. One type of pain that many of us experience comes from our joints. Conditions such as osteoarthritis, arthritis and rheumatism can be extremely painful and difficult to live with.

I have osteoarthritis through my spine, and in other joints. I use a blend of herbs that keeps the pain at a level I can live with without too much whinging. It is a classic blend of turmeric, black pepper, ginger and moringa, but with a lot of hawthorn. I have found that hawthorn really strengthens the action of the other herbs, possibly because the cardiotonic effect of it makes the herbs more available in my blood vessels. It has been shown to be an effective adjunct to treatment for chronic heart-failure.

Turmeric is well known as a remedy for pain. Studies show that the effect of the curcumin in it, which is the part of the plant that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and anaelgesic effects, is enhanced when supplemented with piperine. Piperine is found in black pepper. Ginger has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory effects in both rheumatism and arthritis. Moringa has many benefits to support the actions of these herbs including reducing the sugar in the blood (sugar is pro-inflammatory), reducing blood pressure, and cleansing the liver and the kidneys.

I add a dessertspoon to a pot of tea or a jug, add boiling water, leave to sit for a while, and drink this over 3 days. In the summer, I keep it in the fridge in case any moulds develop.

Ingredients: Hawthorn, turmeric, black pepper, ginger, moringa

I grow all of my plants organically, although they are not certified (this saves cost and workload!). Anything I have to buy in, I make sure it is organic and from an ethical source. Once the bees have taken their fill of pollen and nectar, I harvest the plants from my garden.

Presented in a reusable/recyclable/returnable 1lb honey jar, av.weight 40g, this is a generous supply that will last longer than a commercial tea.
