Sleep Through Tea
So many people ask me for a solution to help them sleep through the night. This is a problem that seems to creep in with age. It seems to be related to our diminishing hormone levels, ability to absorb essential minerals, and our liver’s capacity to detoxify during the night.
So, I have put a blend of tea together to try to address these issues. It has a slightly bitter taste, but is still fairly well balanced. I generally make a pot, using 1 dessertspoon of this tea. I then add a slice or two of orange and lemon to a mug, cover with boiling water and then fill the rest of the mug with my Sleep Through Tea. I drink several of these between 6 and 9.30pm. I often wake briefly to use the loo, but remain dopey and go straight back to sleep. I have had one or two positive reports for this new blend. Let me know whether it works for you.
The ingredients include lemon balm, which has been shown to aid with sleep and other anxiety related disorders, Ashwaghanda, which contains progesterone and testosterone – hormones that aid sleep and the herb has been shown to improve sleep and mental alertness in adults, caraway which contains choline, a substance that helps the liver to detoxify, and also carvone which has been shown to induce sleep and reduce pain in neuropathy, porcini mushrooms , high in l-theanine which has been shown to improve sleep onset and quality, and vitamin B to support the liver and has been shown to reduce the iron levels in the hippocampal area for the brain to reduce sleep deprivation, nettles which are high in magnesium and act to detoxify the kidneys, have been shown to reduce sleep latency and increase sleep duration, hypericum, which is high in 5-HTP and has been shown to improve sleep, particularly slow wave sleep in people who have chronic sleep problems, black pepper, which contains piperine which has been shown to induce sleep and to increase the bioavailability of other herbs and medicines, ginger which also contains choline and testosterone, and cardamon which contains zinc, another essential mineral to support sleep.
For best results add a dessertspoon to a tea pot, pour boiling water over, leave to sit for 5 minutes. Drink in the early evening, between 6pm and 9pm. The taste is slightly bitter. A slice of orange or lemon may be added to improve flavour, but sugars are best avoided as these will work against the detoxification action of the herbs.
I grow all of my plants organically, although they are not certified (this saves cost and workload!). Anything I have to buy in, I make sure it is organic and from an ethical source. Once the bees have taken their fill of pollen and nectar, I harvest the plants from my garden.
Presented in a reusable/recyclable/returnable 1lb honey jar, av.weight 40g, this is a generous supply that will last longer than a commercial tea.
